'80s wear
A dominant trend from past seasons, the '80s is becoming even more influential in designers' fall 2009 collections. Think oversize blazers with exaggerated shoulders, pleggings (a mix between jeans and leggings, exposed zippers, neon brights, and sequins (seen on everything from dresses to leggings). Try wearing a neon-colored cotton T-shirt under a blazer to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe!
Balmain jump-started the return of the sharp shoulders for Fall 2009. So '80s rocker chic!
This neon Alternative Apparel T-shirt is the perfect pop of color!
Animal Print
If you're wary of the return of the animal-print trend, try channeling it with accessories. A cute pair of leopard print flats looks simultaneously chic and trendy. Or, if you're ready to fall headfirst into this trend, choose a great animal-print coat or dress. New York designer Bensoni (and a Helianthus fav) lused tons of leopard print in their fall collection. We especially love this gorg violet long-sleeved leopard-print dress:
In usual Kate Moss fashion, she has been channeling this trend for a while with her vintage leopard coat.
Lace
But don't think pretty, delicate doily-style lace. Black, gothic lace is more like it -- a perfect mix between girlie and punk. Channel this trend with a cute clutch or black lace top.
The lace detailing on this Mason dress adds the perfect touch!
How cute is our little black lace purse? It looks so vintage!
Plaid
Fall styles are also taking a cue from '90s grunge -- everything from miniskirts, to tunics and dresses have incorporated plaids and flannels. Wear with tights and boots and you're good to go.
Lauren Conrad wears her plaid tops with skinny jeans and heels for a girlie feel.
