Fall Trend Forecast

September is just around the corner, and we're clearing out the summer frocks to make room for our new fall collection! But before you put together a shopping list, read on for the must-haves to update your fall wardrobe.

'80s wear
A dominant trend from past seasons, the '80s is becoming even more influential in designers' fall 2009 collections. Think oversize blazers with exaggerated shoulders, pleggings (a mix between jeans and leggings, exposed zippers, neon brights, and sequins (seen on everything from dresses to leggings). Try wearing a neon-colored cotton T-shirt under a blazer to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe!

Balmain jump-started the return of the sharp shoulders for Fall 2009. So '80s rocker chic!

This neon Alternative Apparel T-shirt is the perfect pop of color!

Animal Print
If you're wary of the return of the animal-print trend, try channeling it with accessories. A cute pair of leopard print flats looks simultaneously chic and trendy. Or, if you're ready to fall headfirst into this trend, choose a great animal-print coat or dress. New York designer Bensoni (and a Helianthus fav) lused tons of leopard print in their fall collection. We especially love this gorg violet long-sleeved leopard-print dress:

In usual Kate Moss fashion, she has been channeling this trend for a while with her vintage leopard coat.
Lace
But don't think pretty, delicate doily-style lace. Black, gothic lace is more like it -- a perfect mix between girlie and punk. Channel this trend with a cute clutch or black lace top.

The lace detailing on this Mason dress adds the perfect touch!

How cute is our little black lace purse? It looks so vintage!

Plaid
Fall styles are also taking a cue from '90s grunge -- everything from miniskirts, to tunics and dresses have incorporated plaids and flannels. Wear with tights and boots and you're good to go.

Lauren Conrad wears her plaid tops with skinny jeans and heels for a girlie feel.

Fall in the Eyes of Bensoni and Mason ...

New York City and Los Angeles are two completely different cities yet these two brands, Bensoni (NYC) and Mason (LA), share a similarity in femininity. That is why we carry these two brands because it is what Helianthus embodies afterall.

Bensoni's Fall 2009 collection is about dinstictive prints and fabric, all tailored towards femininity.

As you can easily spot, not only in Bensoni's collection, but everywhere, fuschia and purple tones are in for the fall season. Must be the new black!

The fuschia jacket is absolutely stunning. The ruffles give this tailored jacket its femininity. And the graffiti lips prints? Very sexy.

Mason's Fall 2009 collection is not as bright in their choice of prints and fabrics like Bensoni but still contains the feminine element in their pieces.

This assymmetrical gathered dress is totally flattering. We have it in black which is even sexier. Love the cutout in the back too!

Showing a little skin but subtly is always sexy. This lace yolk dress another great number by Mason. Perfect transition from summer to fall.

Come stop by and check out our new fall collection. You won't regret it!

Wildfox Couture has arrived!

Wildfox Couture, a young Los Angeles-based label, embodies the spirit of Helianthus NY -- comfortable and fuss-free but still stylish and chic! The line is the product of two childhood friends Emily Faulstich and Kimberley Gordon, who take inspiration from vintage concert tees and Native American artwork. The duo even has a growing celeb following, including stars such as Megan Fox, Demi Lovato, Whitney Port, Lindsay Lohan and Vanessa Hudgens!

We just received the Soft Serve Face oversized tee! So adorable! Its slouchy, oversize quality would make it look perfect paired with leggings.

This too.. the Black Heart Slip Dress. Also very cute! We love the versatile quality of this piece -- it would look amazing in the dog days of summer, or in the fall paired with tights and a boyfriend cardigan on top!

The following pics are from their summer/fall collections. Really fun images..
